More and more businesses are recognising the value of modelling their business processes. This is often in conjunction with broader initiatives such as Six Sigma and Business Excellence which aligns to the US Baldrige criteria. Software Education’s Business Process Modelling course is aimed at organisations of all sizes – irrespective of whether they have none, some or all of their processes already documented.
During the course participants learn to use a structured, disciplined approach to understanding business process models through eliciting, analysing, documenting and validating business processes. Particular emphasis is placed on identifying measurable end-to-end business processes, ensuring alignment to the business in meeting defined goals and objectives.
The output from the process is a model that depicts the sequence of activities, from an initiating event, that results in an outcome of value to the organisation that can be managed, monitored and supported.
The course uses industry recognised standards to depict business process models. It draws upon both local and international good practice to provide a range of techniques and methods for conducting business process analysis. 
This course is endorsed by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA™). It provides material and skills relevant to the Requirements Analysis and Documentation Business Analysis Body of Knowledge™(BABOK™) knowledge area.

Prerequisites
Participants are expected to have some understanding of basic business practice, and to have been exposed to organisational workflow.
Note that IT experience is not a prerequisite; the course has relevance to other areas of the organisation.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Conduct an analysis assignment to elicit either existing or new business processes
- Present these processes in a model, using recognised and consistent standards
- Identify effective measures that will contribute to understanding the performance characteristics of the processes

- Recognise how and from where they can extract any software requirements from the renewed processes
- Understand the broader context within which business process modelling should be performed to promote the greatest value to their organisation.

Lecturing is kept to the minimum necessary. A participative approach is used to enable learning by discovery.
